Madura Rooftop Bangkok: Inside EM District’s New Rooftop Bar

Scroll to explore

Bangkok's Em District has no shortage of rooftop bars. What it didn't have — until now — was one built around Miami's Latin American energy: fire-driven cooking, handcrafted cocktails, live music, and a room designed to shift from dinner into nightlife as the evening moves. Madura Rooftop, the newest addition to SKYVIEW Hotel Bangkok on Sukhumvit Soi 24, is that room.

Quick answer: Madura Rooftop is SKYVIEW Hotel Bangkok's Latin American-inspired rooftop restaurant and bar, on the 32nd floor on Sukhumvit Soi 24, a short walk from Phrom Phong BTS and EmQuartier. Drawing on the bright, social energy of Miami and influences across Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Cuba, and Colombia.

The program is led by these people: Wine Director Kimi Kiviranna (a Court of Master Sommeliers-certified sommelier since 2010),and Chef de Cuisine Omar Konateh (trained at two Michelin-starred kitchens in Stockholm).

Expect a Latin American-rooted, fire-driven menu, house-made cocktails built from scratch, and a wine list weighted toward grower Champagne and organic/biodynamic producers.

A typical evening — a cocktail or two, a wine pour, and a few shared plates — runs approximately ฿1,500–2,500 per person; sharing the Prime Rib-Eye or reserve Champagne pushes that considerably higher.

What Madura Rooftop Is — and Why It's Different

Most Bangkok rooftop bars build their identity around the skyline first and the drinks second.

Madura flips that. The concept centers on a wine list running to close to 150 selections — overwhelmingly organic or biodynamic-certified, and weighted toward small grower-Champagne producers rather than big houses — paired with a cocktail program where most of the syrups, ferments, and sauces are made from scratch in-house, and a kitchen doing 14-to-21-day in-house dry-aging on its own duck and beef.

That's an unusual amount of craft behind the bar and the pass for a rooftop concept, and it's the main reason Madura reads closer to a serious wine-and-cocktail room with a view than a typical see-and-be-seen sky bar.

The space itself sits on the 32nd floor of SKYVIEW Hotel Bangkok, with open-air seating facing Em District area in the middle of Sukhumvit, plus indoor areas for more private and cozy ambience.

Who it's for: couples looking for a quieter alternative to the bigger EM District sky bars, wine and cocktail drinkers who want more than a house pour, guests who want serious kitchen technique (not just bar snacks) at altitude, and hotel guests who want all three without leaving the property.

Meet the People Behind the Menu

Madura's identity runs through these people:

Kimi Kiviranna, Wine Director — Court of Master Sommeliers-certified since 2010, with a career spanning Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe and restaurant openings in Singapore, Australia, and the US. She built Madura's list around grower Champagne and organic/biodynamic producers rather than the big-name houses most rooftop lists lean on.

Omar Konateh, Chef de Cuisine — trained at two Michelin-starred kitchens in Stockholm (Aira, two stars; Operakällaren, one star) before opening Villa Frantzén Bangkok and leading kitchens in Phnom Penh and Phuket. His food pairs classical French and Nordic technique with a fermentation-driven approach and Latin American ingredients — charcoal, in-house dry-aging, and handmade tortillas throughout.

Under the hands of these two, Madura is less "hotel rooftop bar" and more a genuine wine-cocktail-kitchen program that happens to have a skyline attached.

What to Order

  • Best for first-timers: the Brava Heat Mezcalita (฿490) — Madura's own signature hot sauce, La Luna Mezcal, agave, fresh lemon and lime. It's our personal recommendation, and the one he built to make guests want a second before they've finished the first.
  • Best wine pour: Paul Dethune Grand Cru Brut Champagne by the glass (฿750) if you want to see what Kimi's grower-Champagne focus is about without committing to a bottle.
  • Signature cocktail beyond the hero pour: the Tamarind Meets Mezcal (฿490) — mezcal joven, house tamarind, chocolate bitters, fresh lime — a good showcase of Maduras house-made syrups.
  • Best light bite to share: the Hokkaido Scallop "Leche de Tigre" (฿690) or Hamachi Tiradito (฿490) — Chef Omar's ceviche-style dishes are a strong, shareable entry point before committing to a charcoal main.
  • Signature dishes to try: Cuban Style Arroz Con Pollo, Peruvian Dry Aged Duck, Charcoal Grilled Snow Fish in Corn Husk (Mextlapique Style)
  • Worth the splurge: the Prime Angus Rib-Eye , 21-day in-house dry-aged and built for the table, or the King Crab Legs smoked over charcoal.
